Notes, Rules & Conditions 2016

NOTES

  • Society Rules apply to Horses and Ponies 
  • Please ensure you complete the 2016 Entry Form, accept the Opt-in for use of photographic material for promotional purposes (if desired) and sign the declaration.
  • Please inform the Secretary should you decide not to attend the Show after your Entry Form has been submitted or if your horse/pony is no longer competing in it's entered class.
  • In the event of any class having a large number of entries, it will be at the judge's discretion to split the class.
  • It is now European Law that all measurements are metric. Please ensure your horse/pony is entered in the correct class.
  • 12.2 hh = 128 cm
  • 13.2 hh = 138 cm
  • 14 hh    = 143 cm
  • 14.2 hh = 148 cm
  • 15 hh    = 153 cm
  • 15.2 hh = 158 cm 
  • Any Horse/Rider/Class changes made on the day must be made STRICTLY before 9am and will incur a fee of £5.00.
  • We welcome entries on Show Day, however, these will be subject to Judges' discretion and at an increased cost of £10.00 per class (excluding Gymkhana Games and Fancy Dress which will continue to be charged at standard entry fee).
  • No pens provided for horse/pony section. Competitors may provide their own.
  • Horses showing signs of coughing MUST NOT be brought to the Show.

 

RULES AND CONDITIONS:

  • In all ridden classes, horses and ponies must be over 4 years of age.
  • The Judges' decisions are final.
  • Entry fee is £5.00 per class (except Gymkhana Games - see entry form).
  • Please bring your Horse Passport with you as you may be required to produce it.
  • Approved Hard Hats must be worn by all mounted competitors.  --  To check your Hat conforms to new Rules, please visit www.bhs.org.uk/safety-and-accidents/common-incidents/what-to-wear/headwear 
  • Any horse/pony can be asked to leave the Show Field by any Committee Member or Steward if deemed necessary.
  • All dogs must be kept on leads.
  • All entries, with payment, must be received by Friday 5th August 2016. Entries received after this time will be accepted at an increased cost of £10.00 per Class (excluding Gymkhana Games and Fancy Dress which will continue to be charged at standard entry fee).
  • No classes will be held up for competitors still competing in another class or activity, except at the Judge's discretion.
  • Start Times stated are for the first class competing in the relevant Ring. Riders/handlers should ensure they check with the Ring Steward to confirm when individual classes may start as this will depend on class numbers on the day.

1. Shetland Ponies (In Hand)

  1.  Shetland Pony, all pure-bred Shetlands eligible

2. Mountain and Moorland Ponies (In Hand)

 

 

Classes 

 

    2a.   Large Mountain and Moorland Ponies                                        

            e.g. Dales, Fells, Connemaras, Welsh Cobs Section C and D, including part bred ponies.

            NB Animals entering this class are not eligible to enter class 7a.

 

    2b.   Small Mountain and Moorland Ponies                                               

            e.g. Exmoor, Dartmoor, Welsh Section A and B, including part bred ponies.

 

Championship for best Mountain & Moorland Pony open to the FIRST & SECOND Prize winners in Classes 2a and 2b.

3. Pure Bred Highland Ponies

 

Classes 

 

    3a.   Pony 4 years upward in hand

    3b.   Brood Mare in foal or with foal at foot

    3c.   Foal

    3d.   Filly, Colt or Gelding, 1, 2 or 3 years old 

    3e.   Ridden Highland Pony over 4 years old 

 

NB. Ponies entered in class 3e are not eligible for class 4d

4. Riding Ponies (under saddle)

Judging 9.30am

 

Classes 

 

    4a.   Riding Pony not exceeding 128cm

    4b.   Lead Rein Riding Pony not exceeding 128cm to be ridden by child 4 - 10 yrs

    4c.   Riding Pony over 128cm and not exceeding 138cm

    4d.   Riding Pony over 138cm and not exceeding 148cm 

 

NB. Animals entered in class 4d are NOT eligible to enter class 3e or 5b 

 

Championship for Best Riding Pony open to FIRST and SECOND prize winners in classes 4a to 4d

5. Riding Horses (Under Saddle)

Judging 9.30 am

 

Classes 

 

    5a.   Riding Horse over 153cm

    5b.   Riding Horse over 143cm and not exceeding 153cm 

 

NB. Animals entered in class 5b are NOT eligible to enter class 4d.

To ensure correct class entry, please refer to the Height Chart in Rules and Conditions.

 

Championship for best Riding Horse open to FIRST and SECOND prize winners in Classes 5a and 5b.

6. Breeding Stock, Veteran and Coloured Horses

 

Classes 

 

    6a.   Brood Mare in foal or with own foal at foot

    6b.   Ridden Veteran Horse/Pony any size (must be 16 years or over)

    6c.   Ridden coloured horse or pony - any breed or height 

 

NB. Entries in class 6a are NOT eligible to enter classes 3b and 3c. 

 

Championship for Best Breeding Stock, Veteran or Coloured open to FIRST and SECOND prize winners in class 6a, 6b and 6c.

7. Working Hunters

Judging 9.30 am

 

NB. To ensure correct class entry, please refer to the Height Chart in Rules and Conditions. 

 

RULES: Brushing boots or bandages may be worn for jumping phase only. Whips not to exceed 75cm. Working Hunters will be required to jump natural obstacles, maximum height 90cm.

Judging is based on 60% jumping, 10% conformation, 10% ride and 20% showing. 

 

Classes 

 

   7a.   Working Hunter – Novice Horse – Max Jump Height 75cm

Competitors in class 7a – Horse and rider combinations should not have been placed first or second in any jumping competition at that height or above.

   NB. Entries in Class 7a are NOT eligible to enter Class 2a or 8a 

 

   7b.   Working Hunter – Open Horse – Max Jump Height 90cm

           

Championship for best Working Hunter open to FIRST and SECOND prize winners in Classes 7a and 7b. Perpetual Trophy donated by Rosemary Dalgleish.

 

 

8. Mountain & Moorland Working Hunters

 

Classes 

 

    8a.   Mountain and Moorland Ponies over 138cm not exceeding 148cm

            (Max jump height 80cm)

    NB. Entries in Class 8a are NOT eligible to enter Class 7a. 

 

    8b.   Mountain and Moorland Ponies not exceeding 138cm

            (Max jump height 70cm) 

 

Championship for Best Mountain & Moorland Working Hunter open to the FIRST & SECOND Prize winners in Classes 8a and 8b.

9. Mounted Fancy Dress

NB. Hard Hats MUST be worn by all MOUNTED Competitors.

Rosettes for all entries

 

Both horse and rider to be dressed up, prizes will be awarded for:-

a.  Funniest

b.  Most Picturesque

c.  Most Topical

 

 

 

10. Show Jumping

No classes to be held this year but a Fun Class – Horse and Hound – will be held instead – see Class 12     

 

  

 

11. Gymkhana

Check Timing on the Day

Entries can be taken on the day at the Ring. £2.00 per game or £5 per 3 Games.

12. Horse and Hound

(Competitor completes the round of jumps mounted and then exchanges horse for hound within marked box and completes the same course on foot with hound)

    12a.   Lead Rein Jumping. (ridden by Child 4 to 10 years)

              (Max jump height 45cm) 

 

    12b.   Riders 12 years and under 

              (Max jump height 55cm)
